Unclear which criteria for speedy deletion this article meets, as none was listed. Articles on the next election for democratic countries are not uncommon; see 2024 United States presidential election and Next United Kingdom general election Lkb335 (talk) 17:32, 16 May 2022 (UTC)
- Agree with @Lkb335, if we are going to have this page we need to create one for the 1993 elections as well. But this kind of election is usually don't get an article created like this - LionCountry25 (talk) 08:48, 20 July 2022 (UTC)
Is this an election? edit
Following Gotabaya Rajapaksa's resignation, Parliament of Sri Lanka is going to select a President in July 2022. He is not someone who is going to be elected by the public. So how can we call this an election? 🔮Plpm2021💬 10:47, 15 July 2022 (UTC)

- Hasn't something like this happened before in Sri Lanka? When 2nd President Ranasinghe Premadasa was assassinated his prime minister became acting president until he was elected by Parliament to become the next president, and sworn in as the 3rd President Not Wlwtn (talk) 16:58, 15 July 2022 (UTC)

It's still a presidential election (as MPs will be voting), just an indirect one as happens in India (2017 Indian presidential election), Pakistan (2018 Pakistani presidential election) etc. Cheers, Number 57 20:47, 15 July 2022 (UTC)
Sarath Fonseka edit
It's unclear at the moment which party Fonseka would run with. He's currently listed in the article as a declared candidate for UNP, but with a reference that reads "... Sarath Fonseka has claimed he is ready to become President if supported by the majority and may be supported by the formerly Rajapaksa-aligned Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP)", and no mention of UNP. - I saw a video on YT, in which he said that Premadasa would appoint him PM if SJB wins without the support of other parties, if SJB gets the support from other parties, Premadasa have to nominate a PM from those allies. Parties supporting each candidate edit
If we mention Sajith Preamada's support for Dullas Alahapperuma in the Details column in the table for Candidates, shouldn't we have to mention the parties that declared to support other candidates? 🔮Plpm2021💬 06:37, 19 July 2022 (UTC)
