Wiretaping scandal edit

I do think we should make a new article about the wiretapping scandal and merge it with this article. Any thoughts on this?p - Phill24th (talk). 16:33, 17 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Wait, are you saying we should make a new article and then merge it with this article? Then what would be the point? —Славянский патриот (talk) 16:37, 17 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
It was only a suggestion. But the protest are only a result of the wiretapping scandal, officially. So, what I'm saying is, you made an article about the aftermath and nothing about the official situation or prelude that is the cause for the protests. I'm saying we need to make an article about the "wiretapping scandal" and maybe merge the two together. - Phill24th (talk). 18:30, 17 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
Oh, I see. I suppose you could do that. —Славянский патриот (talk) 19:01, 17 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
Yeah. Otherwise this article is fundamentally pointless. Because this is a part of a wider political crisis in Macedonia, from which itself derives. - Phill24th (talk). 20:53, 17 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
Should we then rename it "Macedonian unrest" and cover a broader amount of information? —Славянский патриот (talk) 22:02, 17 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
Well, I think that the phone-hacking should get an article all on its own. - Phill24th (talk). 13:35, 18 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
Plus, if there's an unrest, it's exclusively because of the wiretap. - Phill24th (talk). 13:57, 18 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
I agree that creating a separate article on the telephone tapping scandal would be more convenient.--Kiril Simeonovski (talk) 12:54, 19 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Update and rework edit

I've already remarked on the ITN candidates page that the article needs to be updated and reworked. Distinction between the "protests" and "counterprotests" has to be made in order to avoid a misleading perception that the governmental supporters clashed with the supporters of the opposition as pointed by the information in the infobox. Also, some sentences pointing to "future events" which have already occurred are still written in future tense.--Kiril Simeonovski (talk) 12:47, 19 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Well, go ahead and contribute to the article. - Славянский патриот (talk) 14:11, 19 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Misleading quotes edit

I just want to turn other editors' attention to the general unreliability of sources, such as rt.com. I just stumbled upon this article which claims that "ambassadors from the US, France, Italy, the UK, Germany, and the EU issued a joint statement threatening to “undermine” Macedonia's decade-long road towards EU and NATO membership." This is the actual message sent out by the ambassadors, as published on the US embassy website: "We have specifically reiterated our concerns to the Prime Minister that his government has not made progress towards accounting for the many allegations of government wrongdoing arising from the disclosures. This continued inaction casts serious doubt on the Government of Macedonia’s commitment to the democratic principles and values of the Euro-Atlantic community. Continued failure to demonstrate this commitment with concrete action will undermine Macedonia’s progress towards EU and NATO membership."

I will re-word the sentence according to the actual, reliable source, but I also leave this note for future reference.--Laveol T 12:28, 29 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

So yes, what the first quote said was, in essence, a shortened version of the second statement. Славянский патриот (talk) 21:48, 29 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Linking to other topics edit

I have a question regarding the connection, mentioned in the article, between these protests and the 2001 events. What is the actual connection between the two and why should they get a mention? The first event concerned an insurgency of Albanian separatists and the other - general anti-government protests over wire-tapping the murder of a young man. Wouldn't it be better if we mentioned the 2011 Macedonian protests as well as the policies spearheaded by Mr Gruevski? --Laveol T 12:36, 29 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Tensions and unrest in Macedonia began during and have been present over the years since the 2001 insurgency. Though I agree, the 2011 protests should also be mentioned. Славянский патриот (talk) 21:53, 29 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

2016 protests edit

Should we rename this article "2015-16 Macedonian protests" and cover the current protests here too, or create a separate article for them from this? Славянский патриот (talk) 22:26, 17 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

Separate, as there is a notable gap between the serious protests.--Zoupan 01:23, 18 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
