Arizona Coyotes

When adding trades that involve Phoenix for the rest of the 2013–14 NHL season; please refer to them as the Arizona Coyotes as the name change will take effect for the 2014–15 NHL season. NYR conditional 7th-round pick

Could it safely be assumed that the condition from the first trade of this pick (to SJS, together with Tommy Grant for Brandon Mashinter) has not been met? If so, we should remove the line either by commenting it out (for later reference once the league releases the exact draft order) or by deleting it altogether... Unfortunately, research regarding the condition was unsuccessful, otherwise the riddle would have already been solved. --Soccer-holic^{I hear voices in my head...} 11:23, 5 January 2014 (UTC)

I have looked for a condition on the SJS part of that trade for the last year with no luck. I would assume that the condition did not convert with last season’s trade, but I do not have any concrete evidence to confirm or deny what happened. Deadman137 (talk) 07:15, 10 January 2014 (UTC)

Devils first-round pick and compensatory picks

As we all know the New Jersey Devils must forfeit their first-round pick this year's draft. This may result in some editors trying to remove the Devils pick from the 1st round table when it gets made later this year. I am proposing that we use the same numbering criteria that was used in the 2011 draft when the Devils had to give up their 3rd round pick that year, any objections?

Also as quick side note; this draft will not have any compensatory 2nd round picks as all of the 2009 first-round picks were signed by an NHL team. So there should be 210 picks for the 2014 draft. Deadman137 (talk) 07:29, 10 January 2014 (UTC)

Using the same numbering criteria as in 2011 is a good idea, which is, by the way, also what the NHL is actually doing, only that the column for the club is left blank, most likely for technical reasons on their side. --Soccer-holic^{I hear voices in my head...} 11:45, 10 January 2014 (UTC)

Conditionals in STL-BUF trade

If both conditions for the involved first-round pick in 2014 kick in, the Sabres will receive said pick from the Blues in exchange for Minnesota's second and their own third; if one condition fails to be converted, Buffalo gets a third in 2016 instead, right?

Play off team draft order

Does anyone know the draft order of playoff teams was changed due to the relaligment: It was (in reverse order): SC winner, SC runnerup, 2 conference final losers, ANY REMAINING DIVISION CHAMPS, remaining playoff teams. So, as of 5/14, (ignoring NJD to simplify things): NYR picks 18th each round, unless they win the cup in which they pick last. On the other end, Boston is either 29th or last each round. TerminalPreppie (talk) 14:57, 14 May 2014 (UTC)

    DAL,DET,CBJ,PHI,NYR,MIN,LAK,MTL,TBL,CHI,SJS,STL,PIT,COL,ANA,BOS

See the source given above (which is from the NHL): [1]. The section titled "Entry Draft Order" states the following:

The order of selection among the Member Clubs in each season shall be determined in the following manner:
A composite of all Member Clubs shall be prepared by placing:
i) First the Clubs which failed to qualify for the preceding playoffs in the order of points earned by each of them in the regular schedule of the preceding season starting with the Club having the lowest points total and followed by the Club having the next lowest points total, and so forth.
ii) The Clubs which participated in the preceding playoffs (but had not been ranked first in their respective Divisions and had not won the Stanley Cup that season) in order of points earned by each of them in the regular schedule of the preceding season starting with the Club having the lowest total points and followed by the Club having the next lowest total points, and so forth.
iii) The Clubs which had been ranked first in their Divisions during the next preceding season (but had not won the Stanley Cup that season) in the order of points earned by each of them in the regular schedule of the preceding season starting with the Club having the lowest total points and followed by the Club having the next lowest total points, and so forth.
iv) The Stanley Cup winner shall select last, thus, positioning all Clubs on the list.

Basically, this means:
i) All non-playoff teams pick before the playoff teams. Lower amount of points = a higher pick.
ii) All playoff teams (excluding division winners) receive the next picks. Again, lower amount of points = a higher pick.
iii) All division winners receive the next picks. As before, lower amounts of points = a higher pick.
iv) Stanley Cup winner receives the last pick.

Marian Gaborik trade

The Kings owe the Blue Jackets two 2nd round picks (one in 2014 and Toronto's in 2015), I just made the decision to make the 2014 pick transfer for the playoff condition and transfer the 2015 pick using the King's option. • That's not an accurate representation of the trade according to the Columbus Dispatch. It's a conditional 2nd and a formerly conditional 3rd. Anaheim gets to choose whether to take Los Angeles's 2nd rounder in 2014 or 2015, and Columbus gets what they don't take. However there are published stories from both the National Hockey League and CBC that contradict what Aaron Portzline is reporting about the third-round pick. BOS/PHI Meszaros conditional

As I see it: A) Meszaros signs before draft: PHI gets the 2nd B)Meszaros walks/retires: PHI gets the 3rd C) Meszaros resigns over the summer : PHI gets the 3rd and also 2015's 4th. Right? Omark trade

Looks like pick 151 (Buffalo's 6th round pick) did in fact go to the Oilers in the Omark trade. The initial condition was Omark playing 15 games, but there must have been another condition that was not reported that gave the Oilers the pick. Deadman137 (talk) 01:23, 27 June 2014 (UTC)

I imagine readers would be equally interested in an aggregation of which leagues future NHL players are coming from as much as which countries they are coming from.
