Talk:2006 Winter Olympics opening ceremony

Latest comment: 6 years ago by InternetArchiveBot in topic External links modified

I don't profess to be ready to edit this, but this article seems to be a mish-mash of the last olympics and the winter olympics. Totally inaccurate!!

  • Apparently whoever started this page put in that nonsense just to get this page started. I am going to purge those edit from the history. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 19:39, 10 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

time? edit

ok, it says the date it was held, but what TIME (UTC) was it held? The pointer outer 23:23, 10 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Indoor or outdoor ? edit

The Olympic plans of all 2014 bid cities have been outlined by all candidates and NONE include an indoor opening ceremony !

Sochi - Sochi Stadium
Salzburg - temporary stadium over the Salzach river
Jaca - La Romaneda Stadium
PyeongChang - Ski Jumping Venue at Alpensia Resort
Sofia - Vassil Levski National Stadium
Borjomi - Ceremony Plaza, situated in the natural amphitheatre in the centre of Bakuriani (suburb of Borjomi)

I didn't know at first which of the cities which planned to host the 2014 Winter Olympics planned to have their opening ceremonies indoors. That's why I said that the opening ceremonies for the 2006 Winter Olympics would be the last ones for a Winter Olympics to be held outdoors until at least the 2014 Winter Olympics. Please keep in mind that the opening ceremonies for the 2010 Winter Olympics will be held indoors. -- SNIyer12 (talk) 14:33, 11 February, 2006 (UTC)

I know perfectly that 2010 is at BC place, the only thing I was challenging is the at least since we already know as a fact that 2014 will be outdoors.83.157.226.4 16:22, 11 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
While those are the current plans, they might be subject to change, in the case of at least Salzburg, and possibly other bid cities, where the plans involve a facility that has yet to be constructed. Caerwine Caerwhine 04:24, 13 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
Please wait until the bid books are submitted to find out. -- SNIyer12 (talk), 14:45, 16 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
The questionnaires answers have been submitted and this is fine enough for me. There is no plan in any bid for an indoor facility and I don't see why anyone would want to increase by a few hundreds of millions the construction cost of the Olympics venues for the sake of being indoors during two four-hour ceremonies. Hektor 22:46, 21 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
I don't see why this fact is relevant enough to be second sentence on the page. Perhaps I'm not the only one? - Idono 19:38, 19 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
No indeed. Hektor 22:44, 21 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Crowd attendance? edit

Are there any numbers for the size of the audience in the building? Radagast 16:57, 11 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

NBC was quoting a figure of 35,000, but exactly who all was including in that figure I don't know. Caerwine Caerwhine 04:26, 13 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
That is the figure cited on the torino2006.org page as well. I suppose that is official. --Kvasir 08:36, 13 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Reading of the Olympic Oath edit

The article says that "Giorgio Rocca read the Olympic Oath on behalf of all the athletes" and then goes on to say that "Fabio Bianchetti from the International Skating Union read the oath on behalf of all athletes".
Can we have some clarification here? Did they read two different oaths or did the Olympic committee feel that they need two readers of the same thing?

-- Aslaveofaudio 23:18, 11 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

That was a wrong wording. Bianchetti read the oath on behalf of all the judges. --Kvasir 00:13, 12 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Reorganisation! edit

This article needs serious rework to better organise into sections chronologically for the spectacles in the ceremonies! I have the entire ceremony taped from the CBC's encore presentation of the live broadcast. So most of my edits will be based on the commentaries on the CBC footage. On the CBC footage they showed the entire length of the parade of nations without commercial break. They also named all the flag bearers. That is definitely a good source of information. --Kvasir 00:12, 12 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

something about the music maybe? edit

part of the music was this year by minimal Techno (music) producer/dj Richie Hawtin, would be nice if there was something in the article about this.

yes, rewriting is in the works, and this will be included in the Futurism section. I didn't catch the name of the DJ from the narration. Thanks. --Kvasir 09:32, 12 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Who was the young girl that sang the Italian National Anthem? A Link to download would be great, I loved her rendition.

That info is already in the article: 2006_Winter_Olympics_Opening_Ceremony#Raising_of_the_Italian_Flag. don't know if a download is available though. --Kvasir 09:24, 2 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Security measures edit

Please note that the 2002 Winter Olympics were the first Olympics since September 11, 2001. All Olympics games since then have seen very heavy security because of concerns of terrorism. During the state funeral of Ronald Reagan, MPDC Chief Charles Ramsey made the point clear: "In a post 9/11 world we have to be very concerned about that and aware of the potential for something to happen, not that we've received any information at all." -- SNIyer12, (talk), 01:15, 18 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Flag Bearers edit

Since this is a pretty high traffic article, shouldn't we have articles on the flag bearers for each country? It doesn't look very good to have red links on that chart. Does anyone want to join me? --Newguineafan 21:14, 18 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

A bit late on this as the games are over, but I'll work some on it.--T. Anthony 23:57, 27 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

List of Disco Themes for the Nations edit

Is there a place this can be found? And what the hell were the Italians thinking, by the way? Karmafist 21:19, 18 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

I don't know what they were thinking either. I'm sure copyright is part of the reason and that the IOC probably don't want songs with lewd and controversial content either. I do have a taped copy of the ceremonies and the CBC broadcasted the parade of Nations without commercial breaks. It wasn't the case of different song for each country though. I don't think this information is that notable of information for this article though. But if you are interested in a particular nation i can review the tape for you. --Kvasir 03:20, 19 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Officials edit

Why is there an "Officials" column on the table if there is not one number in it? Could someone remove the column....thanks! --Jared [T]/[+] 03:11, 5 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Well the original intention is to have a figure for each country on the number of non-athletes in the nation's contingent. Not sure where that information can be found collectively. I've seen the number of Canadian supporting staff and official somewhere. This number would help to explain why we are seeing more people marching than the number of athletes in the parade. This is especially obvious when there is only one athlete accompanied by several officials and staff in a contingent. --Kvasir 07:09, 5 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
I see your point, and I think it would be great if we found it. But if we can't then I would advise someone to remove it as it is kind of ugly. --Jared [T]/[+] 14:40, 5 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Parade of Athletes Entering Per Italian Language edit

I have removed the line saying that entering per the host country's language is a new tradition stemming from the Athens Games. It has been done this way for many years (although with a few exceptions, such as 1992 and 1998.) Smartyllama (talk) 17:39, 14 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
