Merger edit

It's been proposed that this actricle is merged with British Heat Wave of 2006, please state you arguments here.

  • Agree - This heat wave strikes more places than just the UK and therefore the UK heat wave should just be a section of the general European heat wave. --SonicX 21:40, 19 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
  • Agree - I further agree with this notion. It is the same cause and effect; same area of high pressure affecting Europe causing high temperatures across the board.

smr 10:41, 21 July 2006 (UTC)smrgeog

  • Agree-Same reasons as discussed above and apears to be part of same heatwave.

It is would be useful to show humidex for the UK. I have put information about the drought, but it needs tidying up.

  • Agree - it's clearly the same heatwave. --EddieBernard 09:42, 25 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
  • Agree No objections, redirecting it as of Today. Marminnetje 02:32, 26 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
  • Can anyone find a map of the UK that they are allowed to then copy and paste and then put with the UK paragraph to show the humidex or/and temperature?

It needs to be copied and then saves, since links to the site with this information will update it otherwise. I wouldn't know how to transfer the image. This would be good since they say that this country is particullary humid by compair to hotter countries that UK holiday makers go to.

It's been proposed that this article will be merged with 2006 United States heat wave and 2006 Australia heat wave

  • Oppose : The Australian heat wave happened 6 months earlier, and the heat wave in July on both sides of the Atlantic are caused by different causes. In Europe the heat wave was a direct result from continuing high pressure zones above the Channel, which didn't influence American weather ofcourse. The coinciding of both events is coincidental and the only link that can be imagined is in the global warming article. SonicX 16:10, 30 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
  • oppose I think it's better to leave the articles separate, the new article would be very large at the end. Marminnetje 17:27, 30 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose These are separate events, as far as we're currently concerned. Even if you believe global warming is to blame and that these all are connected, they're still separate meteorological events. -Mike Tigas 04:27, 31 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Information edit

France edit

Does someone have more information on France, as it's just as much affected as the other areas mentioned ? --SonicX 21:33, 19 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Map edit

Does anyone happen to have a map of resembling the one of U.S. Heat Wave of 2006, preferably the one of July 17, 2006, the hottest day so far. I can't find any --SonicX 10:52, 21 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

  • Well, this map, shows what temperatures were like in Ireland on 18 July 2006, but I can't find one of Europe either. Jvlm.123 16:05, 21 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

I was thinking about including this graph [1] in the article, on the premission that someone with good image editing software could translate the Dutch words. The graph shows very clearly the extra-ordinary temperatures measured in the Netherlands, with average daily temperatures (day+night) being about 5°C higher than average. Think this graph is a good one and can someone help out ? Thanks --SonicX 13:00, 24 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

  • You need to go the US weather site that has weather maps.
    • "The US weather site" ? ;) No, I prefer a map of the warmest day so far, though a map of wednesday July, 26 will do as well I think, another heat wave peak coming up --SonicX 19:27, 24 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

-added a chart of the 'famous' 19th july. (netherlands). Marminnetje 02:37, 26 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

  • Thanks, though a European wide chart would still be prefered I think. I have to continue study right now, but I think this day (July, 26) also features very high temperatures all across Europe (30°C + virtually everywhere but Ireland, Russia and Scandinavia) --SonicX 10:43, 26 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Well, where did we get the chart for the 2003 European heat wave? bob rulz 19:34, 29 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

  • NASA I think, but it was only after the heatwave this map was made.

Duration edit

The intro says the heat wave 'lasted to the end of July'. Since it's not yet the end of July and the heatwave is not yet over (at least in the UK), this prediction seems premature, so I've removed it. Ben Finn 17:55, 29 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

  • In the Netherland, Belgium and France it's officially over except in some areas. All ofcourse depends on the exact definition of a heat wave. In the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark and some other, it's described as 5 consecutive days with max temperatures over 25°C, with at least 3 days of 30°C and higher. In all regions except Belgian Limburg the temp has not seen 30°C in three days, which is the end of the heatwave. What's the British definition then, as my weather map seems to say the UK cooled down a lot as well and the heat wave moved eastwards before dissipating. --SonicX 15:23, 30 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

July 2006 edit

Statement that "July 2006 is the warmest month ever recorded in history", what in 4.5 billion years, this is the warmest? Some context should be provided. --24.226.10.98 00:07, 31 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

  • Since records began ... ofcourse. It's also the warmest ever recorded in history are previous record months before records began probably weren't recorded by the stone age people, so the text seems correct to me --SonicX 06:53, 31 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Dates in Finland edit

The section about Finland states that "As of January 2006, there has been very little snow..." As we are talking about the 2006 heatwave and it's ongoing effects, shouldn't that be "As of January 2007..."? Looks like a simple typo but perhaps someone who knows for sure should correct this. 87.112.26.192 11:56, 6 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Celsius vs Fahrenheit? edit

Since the countries mentioned in the article all use the metric system and therefore use the Celsius scale for temperature, I believe it would make more sense if all temperatures in the article were expressed in degrees C rather than F. It seems a bit odd that people reading this about their own countries (in my case, the Netherlands) should be forced to convert the temperatures before being able to understand them. CodeCat 21:17, 6 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

I've taken the liberty of converting them for you. -- RattleMan 21:49, 6 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
