Regarding the stated evidence for Nevada as a "safe state" prior to 1992

I think that the characterization of Nevada as a safe red state from the 1980s and prior is probably accurate, but the information provided in the article to support its description as such might be less than optimal—none of the three elections held in the 80s saw the Republican candidate win the national popular vote by less than 8 percentage points. Perhaps we could modify the relevant passage so as to note the margin by which the Republican candidate overperformed his share of the overall popular vote in the state of Nevada? It might be the only component of the sentence that we'd have to change: it also happens to be the case that Reagan and H.W. won Nevada by at least 10 points more than they did the entire nation in each of their respective elections.

Additionally, I would suggest cutting the phrase "the beginning of" from the article. Nevada's vote margin shifted 10 points towards the Democrat relative to that of the United States as a whole, and the trend—which the previously mentioned phrase would imply was relatively clear—of the state's partisan lean hasn't shown a consistent pattern (one can take a look at its relative vote margin in the elections since: the relative Democratic gain from '88 to '92 reverts back somewhat in the next election; the 2004 and 2008 elections see successive, moderate relative gains by the Democratic candidate; those gains are undone about halfway by similarly successive—but more slight—losses in the most recent two elections.) — Encyclopedia Lu (talk) 01:07, 3 September 2017 (UTC)
