Turkey did not enter playing qualification due to: 1) not play for Israel 2) as the protest as they from European zone qualified for two previous World Cups. Metufit (talk) 13:18, 31 August 2021 (UTC)

Hong Kong

The fifa document FIFA Fact Sheet: History of the FIFA World Cup (TM) Preliminary Competition does not list Hong Kong as having taken part (or withdrawing) from the 1958 edition. Instead it lists Hong Kong as having entered World Cup qualifiers for the first time in 1974 (page 27).--Crabbylucy (talk) 06:57, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

Only UEFA losers could face Israel?

In a Swedish book on the 1958 World cup qualification, it's said that one of the already eliminated teams had to play Israel and Belgium and Uruguay told they weren't interested (my translation). Does anyone have a source stating that it actually only was the UEFA teams that were included in the lottery? Fomalhaut76 (talk) 15:10, 20 July 2011 (UTC)

This is quoted from FIFA's official website. [1] "The Welsh were able to take advantage of an unusual situation in the Africa/Asia zone, where a flood of withdrawals would have led to Israel qualifying without having played a single match. This prompted FIFA to rule that qualification without playing was not allowed, and so Israel were ordered to play against one of the teams finishing second in the other groups. The luck of the draw favoured Wales, who defeated Israel 2-0 twice early in 1958." It sounds like every team was entered into a draw and Wales were the lucky ones. Both two-time champions Uruguay and Italy withdrew, so Ireland, Belgium, Bulgaria, Wales, Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Spain, Peru, Bolivia and Costa Rica were had to draw. After Belgium refused, Wales were drawn. Metufit (talk) 13:23, 31 August 2021 (UTC)

North American Qualifying

Just wondering why qroups 1 and 2 in NAQ have been swapped about from what FIFA have on there website. Shouldn't they be switched to be inline with what FIFA have? Stevie fae Scotland (talk) 16:01, 11 June 2013 (UTC)

Group 1 - NAFC Group 2 - CCCF May be refer that that's is the separate zones, and has been play-off played. Swapping is not important. Metufit (talk) 08:43, 2 March 2021 (UTC)
