A hurricane at Tampico in early August?

This newspaper has a screaming headline about a boat that went missing in the Gulf after a hurricane struck Tampico, Mexico. It was published August 6, 1942. The first storm in HURDAT from this season formed on August 17. It appears this season has a missing storm. -- HurricaneERIC - Class of '08: XVII Maius MMVIII 23:44, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

See if you can find any other supporting information. I'll alert the reanalysis police, in case this is new to them. Just FYI, there is a December 1938 system which sounds like a TS in the east-central Atlantic. This December TC/ST activity we've seen since 1984 likely isn't something new. I received a response which indicates they are aware of that system. The reanalysis has gone through 1942, preliminarily, and thus far considers the system a tropical storm which impacted northeast Mexico around the date of that newspaper article. Since nothing has been formally published, or even informally been presented at any conference regarding the reanalysis in 1942, you're going to have to go by the newspaper articles you find for the wikipedia article until the reanalysis reaches 1942. At the rate they've been going lately, that could be another 4 years. See what else you can find for the article in the meantime for its improvement. =) Thegreatdr (talk) 21:39, 20 April 2009 (UTC)
