Celtic and home-grown players edit

While I acknowledge that Celtic did have an all-Scottish squad, I don't think this is comparable due to differences in the administrative units between Scotland and East Germany. I currently don't have time to search for add'l material to support my stance, but will do so later tonight. Madcynic (talk) 10:21, 22 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Full name edit

The abbreviation FC stands for Fußballclub. Thus, the full name that should appear in the infobox is 1. Fußballclub Magdeburg. It is true the club itself doesn't commonly use this full name, which is part of the reason the abbreviation is used in the title and text of this article. — 37 (talk) 12:13, 12 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

I politely disagree. Looking at the statute of a club such as Schalke 04, for example, you'll notice it explicitly says "Der Verein führt den Namen „Fußballclub Gelsenkirchen-Schalke 04 e.V.“, abgekürzt „FC Schalke 04 e.V.“." - http://www.schalke04.de/de/verein/aufbau/satzung/page/244--244--.html I hold therefore that the full name parameter should be filled with the full name as defined by the club. I recognize it is unusual for a club not to elucidate on the abbreviations it uses, however this does not change the fact that its full name is 1. FC Magdeburg e. V. The full name parameter should be filled with the full name. FC in 1. FC Magdeburg means Fußballclub, whether or not the club uses this in its statutes. This full name is used in different sources, like on Magdeburg’s website. Cheers — 37 (talk) 00:57, 13 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
I have asked for comments at WP:FOOTY, as we can't seem to agree here. Please comment there if you feel I misrepresented your opinion. Madcynic (talk) 12:35, 13 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
If the club calls itself 'Fußballclub' then it should be Fußballclub; if it is only registered as 1.FC Magdeburg then it should be '1.FC Magdeburg'. For an English example, AFC Wimbledon are quite clear that 'AFC' is just initials - it does not stand for 'Association Football Club'. Most cases will required Fußballclub but there are exceptions; Magdeburg may be one. The best way of settling it would be to find out the name under which it has its license with the German FA --Super Nintendo Chalmers (talk) 10:24, 14 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
http://1.fc-magdeburg.de/downloads/dokumente/Satzung.pdf Here you have the statute. The full name is 1. FC Magdeburg e.V. The FC stands for Fußballclub and can be explained somewhere in the article if it is necessary. -93.130.84.69 (talk) 01:44, 12 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
