==Political career==
Sharma's political talent was first noticed by former Prime Minister [[Atal Bihari Vajpayee]]. Like many politicians in the Bharatiya Janata Party, Sharma began his political career with the [[Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad]], the student wing of the [[Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh]]. He was later named the state President of the BJP's [[Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha]] (Youth Wing).<ref>{{cite web|title=Deputy CM-designate, Dinesh Sharma: A professor known to have good rapport with Lucknow Muslims|url=}}</ref> Sharma was subsequently elected as Mayor of Lucknow in 2006. On 16 August 2014 he became the National Vice President of [[Bharatiya Janata Party]], following his contribution to the party's success in the [[Indian general election, 2014|2014 Lok Sabha elections]]. On March 19th19, 2017, he was appointed as one of two Deputy Chief Ministers of Uttar Pradesh.
