Rockstar India was established as a studio for Rockstar Games in Bangalore in August 2016.[1] Rockstar Games had previously collaborated with Technicolor SA to house a dedicated art and animation production unit at Technicolor's Technicolor India studio in 2012.[2] Rockstar India was part of the development team on Red Dead Redemption 2, which was released in October 2018.[3] In May 2019, Rockstar announced that it had agreed to acquire a majority holding in Dhruva Interactive, the oldest game developer in India, from Starbreeze Studios.[4] Dhruva's team was to be integrated into Rockstar India.[4] At the time, Rockstar India had approximately 500 employees led by Daniel Smith as studio director.[4] The acquisition of Dhruva closed on 22 May.[5]
