Prakashchandra Pandurang Shirodkar

Prakashchandra Pandurang Shirodkar, (1941 – 6 May 2021),[1] the eldest son of Pandurang Purushottam Shirodkar, was an Indian Indologist, archaeologist, and writer. His father, Pandurang Shirodkar, was a prominent freedom activist of Goa, and also served as the first speaker of the Goa, Daman and Diu Legislative Assembly under the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party.[2] Shirodkar had devoted his career to research, and made valuable contributions in archeology.[3] He was the founding editor of two research journals, Colloquium and Purābhileka-Purātatva.[4]

In 1993, he discovered rock art engravings on lateritic platforms and granite boulders from Usgalimal on the banks of west-flowing river Kushavati, which has shed light on the prehistory of Goa and the existence of humans in Goa during the Paleolithic and Mesolithic.[5][6]

He died on 6 May 2021 due to ill health.[1]
