Montserrat Volcano Observatory Tremors

Montserrat Volcano Observatory Tremors Football Club (also known as MVO Tremors, Tremors FC, Volcano Observatory, and MVO), are an association football club based in Salem, Montserrat, however due to the eruption of the Soufrière Hills volcano all home matches since 2002 have been played in the town of Lookout. They compete in the Montserrat Championship, the top flight football league in Montserrat.[1] Their colours are green and red.

The club was founded in 1995 by researchers at the Montserrat Volcano Observatory, leading to the club's nicknames of The Scientists and The Volcanoes. All of the players in team history have been researchers at the observatory and do not get paid to play. Such is common in the Montserrat Championship; likewise all players on Royal Montserrat Police Force FC are police officers who are not paid to play football.[2]

Although they are headquartered at the Observatory in Salem, Tremors play their matches at Blakes Estate Stadium in Lookout, which they share with several other Montserratian football clubs including Police, Ideal, Saint John's, and P.C. United, as well as the Montserrat national football team.[3] They previously played at Montserrat's national cricket stadium Salem Oval.

The Montserrat Championship has only been played sporadically since Tremors were founded. The season was abandoned due to a large eruption during the 1997 campaign (in which Tremors were one of the title favourites) and did not return until 2002, and was also not played between 2005 and 2015.

Tremors won the league title in their inaugural season of 1995. It is the only trophy the club has ever won. They have been runners-up in the Montserrat Championship twice: in 2004 and 2017.

The club's anthem is Volcano by Jimmy Buffett, which was written about Soufrière Hills prior to the 1995 eruption.[4]
