Personal life edit

Islam married her 10-year long boyfriend, S M Parvez Sanjari, a US-Bangla Airlines pilot on 12 May 2017.[4] On 5 October, Islam filed a case against Sanjari with Uttara West Police Station under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.[5] She alleged him of torturing her - breaking her left arm, burnt her with cigarette butts and injuring several other parts. She also alleged him of asking dowry. Sanjari was arrested on the same day.[6] On 7 October, on a later deleted Facebook post, Islam alleged Sanjari of torturing and cheating, and also announced her intention of divorcing him.[5][7] Sanjari was arrested on 6 October.[4] After getting bail, Sanjari had sent a divorce letter to Islam on 31 January 2018 and the divorce was completed on 22 May 2018.[4] After refusing to provide evidence for more than 1.5 years, an arrest warrant was issued against Islam on 23 June 2019.[8] 4 weeks later, on 22 July, she gave evidence for the dowry case at the court in July 2019.[8] More than 5 years later since the case was filed, Islam withdrew it in October 2022.[9]

On 2 June 2019, Sanjari suffered an assassination attempt with acid attack in front of his house.[10][11] Around 8-10% of his body was burnt as a result.[4] Sanjari's father, SM Nasiruddin, filed a case against Islam and, her associate, Kim John Peter Haldar.[4] In February 2019, the court ordered the police to arrest Islam.[12] In December 2020, the police submitted a chargesheet against them.[13] In November 2021, a complaint was formed against them by the Acid Crime Suppression Tribunal.[14]

In September 2019, Sanjari filed a case against Islam and her father, Shahidul Islam, accusing them of keeping secret of her prior marriage.[15] In March 2020, Islam secured bail on this case.[15][16]

In June 2023, court dismissed both of the cases of cyber crimes of Islam and Sanjari filed against each other in 2019.[17][18]
