McAdam High School, previously known as McAdam Composite High School, is a grades 6–12 school located in McAdam, New Brunswick. The town and its high school are both named for late-19th-century politician John McAdam. It was founded in 1924, and renovated in1984. McAdam High is known for its cooperative education program.

McAdam High School is a two-story wood frame structure of 4,424 square meters.[2] It is located within the Anglophone West School District.[3]
According to the district, in the 2022–2023 school year McAdam High School had a total enrollment of 87 students, utilizing 23% of the school building's capacity, and the school employed 9.5 full-time equivalent teachers.[2] A 2014 demographic study showed a 15-year decline in enrollment from 183 students in 1999 to 101 students in 2014.[4]
The curriculum at McAdam includes cooperative education, which places students in local businesses and in the Fredericton area.[5]

Built in 1924, the school was last renovated in 1984.[2]
The 1998 installation of a broad base technology lab brought praise from Premier Camille Theriault, who presided at the opening of the lab. The premier observed the lab would enhance students' abilities to compete in the global marketplace.[6]
In 2007, McAdam students "adopted a highway and also won an award for recycling".[7]
Sports edit
The school's sports teams are members of the New Brunswick Interscholastic Athletic Association. In 2012, none of the students at McAdam High did better than 4th place in the provincial athletic competition.[8]
A skateboard park, funded by a Royal Canadian Mounted Police Foundation grant, opened in 2011 adjacent to the high school.[9]
The school mascot, "Warriors", came under criticism after complaints that the mascots of McAdam High School and Woodstock High School promoted racism, following a basketball game between the two rivals.[10]

The program, which this year involved 19 students under the direction of teacher Susan Brannon, has enjoyed success since its inception six years ago... Placements in the program ranged from BPB Westroc, Lakeland Industries, Nikki Lindsay, McAdam Recreation Department, McAdam Public Library, McAdam High School, McAdam Elementary School, T & T Snowmobiles and McAdam Credit Union in the McAdam area.

The lab will give McAdam students the same chance to compete in the global marketplace as students from larger communities, the premier pointed out. He also praised the involvement of BPB Westroc and its branch office in McAdam for partnering with education in the project. Westroc presented the second instalment of a $50,000-donation to the lab...The broad base technology lab, which offers opportunities to students in Grade 9 and 10, is the first in District 18 to partner education with industry in setting up this type of facility. Each of the 14 computer stations at the opening ceremonies featured a different module -- from multimedia and desktop publishing to home economics and animation.

Christopher George, a Dalhousie teacher, said he was shocked by the appearance of mascots representing Woodstock High School Warriors and the McAdam High School Warriors at a recent provincial basketball tournament in Fredericton... The McAdam mascot wore a buckskin outfit and a huge fake head, complete with braided hair, a headband and paint on the face. Cheering on the Woodstock team were three mascots, one adult male and two boys dressed in only breech cloths, braided wigs, headbands, turkey feathers and painted faces... Mr. George said he was surprised to see these 'obvious acts of ignorance and indecency' at the Feb. 25-26 high school basketball tournament at the Aitken Centre...'I was discouraged to witness blatant stereotypes of First Nations people tantamount to racism,' Mr. George said. 'It was kind of shocking to see. . . . My first thought was, "I am glad my children aren't here to see this". I wouldn't know what to say to them. I wouldn't know how to explain it.' ...Mr. George, who is an aboriginal, teaches history at Dalhousie High School, where he also serves as the assistant basketball coach. He said he's not speaking on behalf of his school or its team but rather as a concerned citizen and father of two.

Dr. Emerson Moffitt, who now resides in Halifax, N.S., was recently named by an international biographical institute as a leading scientist in a soon-to-be- published book entitled 2,000 Outstanding Scientists of the 20th Century. In speaking of his narrowed specialty of anesthesia with open heart patients, Moffitt noted that he had a depth of learning that was gained through his extensive research as to what kind of anesthetic combinations are best to prevent damage to the heart during operations...Following graduation from McAdam High School in 1942 where he received the Governor-General's Medal for the highest academic standing, he continued his studies in science at the University of New Brunswick.
