  4. ^ As of the 2023–24 academic year, Texas A&M–Commerce is in the second year of a four-year transition to Division I and will become an active Division I member in 2026–27.
  5. ^ Texas Tech uses "Lady Raiders" for women's sports teams that have men's counterparts, most notably women's basketball. "Red Raiders" is used in sports that are sponsored only for one sex, whether men or women.
  6. ^ UTRGV announced plans to add a football team, originally setting 2024 for the start of play but then delaying it to 2025. It will play in the United Athletic Conference.
