When Javid started the website in 1995, he called it The Iranian (after The New Yorker).[3]

The site has historically generated revenues through donations, Google AdSense, advertisers[4] and sponsors like World Singles Networks.[5]

On April 24, 2012, Javid announced that he was pursuing a new venture,[6] and that he had sold his remaining shares to his partner, entrepreneur Saïd Amin.[7]
