The Innovation Indicator is a collaboration by acatech - the German Academy of Science and Engineering and the Bundesverband der Deutschen Industrie (BDI). The Indicator was first initiated by the Deutsche Telekom Stiftung and BDI. In 2015 acatech replaced Deutsche Telekom as partner.

The regular release of the Innovation indicator is a comparative study to evaluate innovation strength. The study is created in Germany and compares Germany with other industrialized and emerging countries. The countries will be evaluated according to their economy, science, education state and society.

The study is created by the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research ISI in cooperation with the ZEW – Zentrum für Europäische Wirtschaftsforschung.[1][2][3]
