I Can See Your Voice Indonesia is an Indonesian television mystery music game show series based on the South Korean programme of the same name. Since the show's premiere on 29 August 2016,[1][2] it has aired five seasons on MNCTV.

Gameplay edit

Format edit

Presented with a group of "mystery singers" identified only by their occupation, a guest artist must attempt to eliminate bad singers from the group without ever hearing them sing, assisted by clues and a celebrity panel over the course of several rounds. At the end of the game, the last remaining mystery singer is revealed as either good or bad by means of a duet between them and one of the guest artists.[a]

The Indonesian counterpart has two different game formats:

  • Original format
Under the original format, the guest artist(s) can eliminate mystery singers after each round, and ended with the last remaining mystery singer depending on the outcome of a duet performance by themselves.
  • Battle format (season 3)
Under the battle format (adapted from Giọng ải giọng ai), both opponents can eliminate one singer each in a single round, and then both can choose one singer each to join the final performance in the final round. At the end of the game, the conditions for winning mystery singers chosen by opposing guest artists, depending on the outcome of each final performance, if:
  1. One opposing guest artist has chosen a "good singer" and the other one has a "bad singer", or
  2. Both two opposing guest artists have chosen a "good singer" or a "bad singer".

Rewards edit

If the singer is good, he/she will feature on a privilege video; if the singer is bad, he/she wins Rp 17,500,000 (from first to fourth season), and then Rp 10,000,000 (for the fifth season).

Rounds edit

Visual round edit

  • The guest artist is given some time to observe and examine each mystery singer based on their appearance.[b][c][d][e][f]
  • A muted video of each mystery singer that reveals only 0.3 seconds of their singing voice is played as an additional hint.[b]

Lip sync rounds edit

  • Each mystery singer performs a lip sync to a song. Good singers mime to a recording of their own performance, while bad singers mime to a recording by someone else.[b][c][d][e]
  • The mystery singer lip syncs to the good singer's recording, then a bad singer's recording comes in the middle of the performance.[f]

Evidence round edit

  • A proof of each mystery singer's singing ability (i.e. photo, video, certificates, etc.) is shown on the screen. Good singers have own evidences, while bad singers had their evidences fabricated.[b][c][d][e]

Rehearsal rounds edit

  • Three random panelists are wearing headphones to listen to a recording of assigned mystery singer that lasts for 30 seconds. Afterward, the panelist defends the mystery singer and convince the guest artist to choose them as the winner.[d]
  • The guest artist is presented with video from a recording session by one of the mystery singers, but pitch-shifted to obscure their actual vocals.[f]

    • The number of mystery singers are set to six (for the 5th season), seven (from 1st to 4th season), or eight (from 1st to 2nd season).
    • The number of rounds are set to three (from 2nd, 4th to 5th seasons) or four (for the 1st and 3rd seasons).
      • In the 4th season, the lip sync round was used by TikTok as a performance piece on a designated mystery singer.[4][5]

Production and development edit

Media Nusantara Citra formally acquired the rights to produce a local adaptation of I Can See Your Voice in Indonesia in July 2016.[6]

Filming edit

Filiming of the show took place at MNC Studios in Kebon Jeruk, Jakarta. During the COVID-19 pandemic, it was made under implementing health and safety protocols only in the fifth season.[7]

Broadcast history edit

I Can See Your Voice Indonesia debuted on 28 August 2016.[1][2] A second season began airing with a first part on 30 January 2017, and then second part on 15 May 2017.[a] In the third season having premiered on 11 March 2018,[13][14] Devano Danendra [id] defeated Iis Dahlia on its first episode under battle format on 17 June 2018.[15][16] Despite having aired entirely in 2019, the fourth season premiered on the last day of 2018.[17] The fifth season was initially scheduled to premiere on 18 January 2021,[18] but it was delayed until 25 January 2021.[19][20]

Special episode and companion event edit

Romaria Simbolon [id] played in the first episode featuring an entire lineup of kids as mystery singers (in the second season) on 24 June 2017.[21]

In the fifth season, Bigo Live conducted a postseason event I Can See Your Talent, in which the top three participants based on voting popularity, would allow to perform a duet alongside one of the guest artists;[22] this was eventually won by Loui Chen, Clara Kharisma, and Farida Meliana.[23]

Cast edit

The series has a panel of celebrities who assist the guest artist(s) to decipher mystery singers' identities throughout the game. Alongside with mainstays, guest panelists also appear since the first season. Overall, 11 different members have been assigned, with the original lineup being Wendy Armoko, Vega Darwanti [id], Lee Jeong-hoon [ko], Julia Perez, Ayu Ting Ting, and Zaskia Gotik [id].

Beside them, subsequent members joining on that lineup also include Anwar Sanjaya [id] (from third season); Chika Jessica, Vicky Nitinegoro [id] (from fourth season); Ivan Gunawan [id], and Okky Lukman (from fifth season).
