Das Zeichen wurde mit den Richtlinien für die Anordnung von verkehrsregelnden Maßnahmen für den Transport gefährlicher Güter auf Straßen vom 9. Dezember 1987 amtlich und am 31. Dezember 1987 im Verkehrsblatt, Heft 24, 1987 veröffentlicht.
