Summary

Description
English: Waste weir open on Chesapeake and Ohio Canal. Paddle valves are open (at bottom) and boards are removed, so that the level (canal pound) be empty of water. This is done in the winter for repairs to the canal, as well as any other time one has to drain the level. See image:Waste_Weir_Closed_on_C_and_O_Canal.jpg for the same waste weir, closed.
