Summary

Description
English: The German submarine U-515 sinking by the bow. On 9 April, U-515 was attacked north of Madeira by the destroyer escorts USS Pillsbury (DE-133), USS Pope (DE-134), USS Flaherty (DE-135) and USS Chatelain (DE-149). Flooding and loss of depth control forced the U-Boat to the surface, where she was sunk by rockets fired from Grumman Avenger and Grumman Wildcat of Compoiste Squadron 58 (VC-58) from the escort carrier USS Guadalcanal (CVE-60) and gunfire from the ships. Sixteen of U-515's crew were killed, but 44 survived the attack.
