Summary

Description
English: Tranent to Cockenzie Wagonway Looking uphill along the trackbed of one of the world's oldest railways dating back to 1722. It was used to export coal from Cockenzie harbour, using horse drawn waggons on wooden rails. A modern railway nearby brings coal into Cockenzie today, but to feed the power station. This is the site of the Battle of Prestonpans (1745) and it has been said that the first use of a railway in warfare occurred here.
