Text Appearing Before Image: :*i-i;^«Jiiii^.? & I Text Appearing After Image: THE BUSINESS OF WAR AT AN ALABAMA RAILROAD STATION—FEDERALS CON-CENTRATING AT STEVENSON BEFORE THE NASHVILLE BATTLE Early in the winter of 1864, this station in the little Alabama town fairly hummed with the movement ofmen and horses and supplies. Schofields division of Thomas army was being concentrated there for thecampaign which culminated, in the middle of December, at the bloody battle of Nashville. A business-like crowd is shown in this picture, of soldiers and citizens, with more than one commanding figure in theforeground. The railroad played a part most important and most vulnerable in the Western campaigns.
