Summary

Description
English: Plant succession in abandoned fields within Brookhaven National Laboratory, NY. Early succession (blue (a)) shows a few herbaceous species with two strongly dominant. The abundance distribution conforms to Motomura's geometric model. At a later herbaceous stage (red (b)) species diversity increases as more species colonize the field and the abundance distribution of the community approaches lognormal (modified from Whittaker 1972)
