Summary
| Description |
English: Junction of the original Washington Street Tunnel and the newer South Bay Tunnel under Stuart Street between Chinatown and Tufts Medical Center stations. The 1908-built Washington Street Tunnel heads left into the twin tunnels, where it climbs to a now-covered portal just east of Washington Street near Bennet Street. The South Cove Tunnel curves to the right; it was built around 1968, but did not actually house the Orange Line until 1987. After the South Cove Tunnel was finished and the Washington Street Elevated disconnected, the tunnels on the left were blocked off. This view was taken from the south end of the southbound platform at Chinatown. |
