Summary edit

Pictured above: Theresa "Terri" Schiavo, with her mother, Mary Schindler, August 11, 2001

This video was released to the court in October 2003.

This frame was grabbed from an edited video produced by the Schindlers. A copy of it is available at this page, labeled as the "five minute" video. The frame is from about the 1:20 mark.

Schiavo's parents contend that her behavior in this image from one of the videos released by her parents showed that she was aware of the people around her. Most neurologists who examined Schiavo disagreed, saying that her level of brain damage made responsiveness impossible and that her behavior represented reflex or instinctive actions.

Fair use for Terri Schiavo edit

This image is asserted to be fair use in this article, as it is a single frame capture from a home video discussed in the article. This frame, among others, have been distributed from the video to news outlets, and have been used as such at http://203.15.102.140/assetbin/Schiavo2598.jpg (displayed at http://www9.sbs.com.au/theworldnews/region.php?id=108406&region=4) to show what Terri not only looks like after her collapse, but also showing how her family is trying to contact Terri. These signals coming from Terri, such as eye contact and eyelashs flickering/closing, was used to say that Terri was not in a PVS. The video itself has been on display during the news coverage of Schiavo's legal battles.
