English: A group of Russians including Ivan Antipin (Иван Антипин), who carried the book of Catherine the Great meeting Japanese in Akkeshi, Hokkaido, 1779.
日本語: 1779年、厚岸にエカチェリーナ2世の勅書を携えた、イワン・アンチーピン(Иван Антипин)を始めとするロシア人訪問団が来訪した。こうした中、最も注目されるのが、1779 年、イルクーツクの商人、シャバリンが商品を交換する「交易」を求め、蝦夷地の厚岸まで来航した事例である。・シャバリンは、蝦夷地を治めていた松前藩と初めて接触したロシア人だった。

・厚岸でのシャバリン一行を描いた絵である。 ・商人たちが帽子を取って整列している。 ・国の公式使節団ではないが、礼儀正しく交渉する姿勢が見える。 ・遅れてきた松前藩の人たちも見える。

・交易を求めたシャバリンに対し松前藩は、「異国との交易は長崎以外では許されないから、以後来ないように」と伝えた。
