Description
English: Robert Mayne (1724-1782), MP for Upper Gatton, by Joshua Reynolds, circa 1776.Painting is illustrated in Catalogue of Pictures in the Tennant Gallery, 34 Queen Anne's Gate, S.W., 1910. The Tennant family acquired the portrait from Mayne's grandson Henry Blair Mayne, Esq., of Duke Street, St. James's.

See the print after this painting by George H. Every, published by Henry Graves & Co., mezzotint, published 1865 (circa 1775).8 7/8 in. x 6 7/8 in. (226 mm x 176 mm) plate size. In 1865 the portrait still belonged to Henry Blair Mayne. Robert Mayne died suddenly in August, 1782. In 1775 he had married Sarah, third daughter and co-heiress of Francis Otway, Esq., of River-Hill, near Sevenoaks, by whom he had issue four sons.
