DescriptionRoad to LA - El Camino Real Bell in Front of San Gabriel Mission (5540781815).jpg
The fourth in the chain of missions in California founded by the Spanish friar Junipero Serra, about 10 miles east of downtown Los Angeles. The California wine industry started here. The City of Los Angeles was founded as an offshoot of this mission.
This is actually the second site for this mission; the original (in the city of Montebello near the Whittier Narrows dam) was abandoned when its fields in the Whittier Narrows were flooded by the San Gabriel River. All that remains of the original mission is a similar El Camino Real bell.
