Summary edit

This file was excerpted by BostonBay from the June 19, 1938 strip. This excerpt is being used in the Singing Sword article and the Prince Valiant article to illustrate several characteristics of the strip. including Hal Foster's compositional techniques and level of detail. It is also representative of the types of situations wherein Prince Valiant finds himself (e.g. outnumbered, fighting, death looming, against Viking Raiders).

This is fair use under US Copyright law because:

  • It is representative of the work as a whole.
  • It is only a small part of the Prince Valiant body of work (half of one of 3000 strips).
  • It should not affect the commercial value of Prince Valiant (at least in a negative way).
  • It is used for non-commercial purposes.
