Il s'agissait de l'élément central d'un ensemble de 5 vases où on retrouve une paire de pots-pourris "fontaine' ou "à dauphins", (aujourd'hui au Paul Getty Museum), avec pour caractéristique une garniture à fond rose, vert et bleu lapis et à décor chinois. Le même style se retrouve sur une paire de bras de lumière au Louvre (OA 11027-11028), de même origine. Tout cet ensemble appartenait à Madame de Pompadour et était disposé à l'hôtel d'Evreux à Paris. Neuf autres exemples de pots-pourris "à vaisseau" sont actuellement répertoriés dans les Collections Royales anglaises, la Wallace Collection de Londres, Waddesdon Manor, la Frick Collection de New York, Sèvres Porcelain Manufactory - la Walters Art Gallery de Baltimore et le J.-P.Getty Museum de Malibu.
