Description
Nederlands: Het schilderij is geschilderd in een pointillistische techniek. De geportretteerde is rechts geplaatst, toegewend naar de beschouwer, terwijl zij in het licht van een petroleumlamp een boek bestudeert. Ze is gekleed in een roze japon, zg. reformkleding, en heeft het haar eenvoudig opgestoken. Op de tafel links is deels de petroleumlamp te zien, geplaatst naast een vaasje rozen op een tafeltje bedekt met een gebloemd kleed. Bloemen in een grote vaas op de achtergrond worden visueel opgenomen in het patroon van het decoratieve behang.
