English: Detail of art installation Canto de Agua (Song of water) by Betsabeé Romero (1963-) which was held in the Zócalo of Mexico City (2016). The installation combined the cultural traditions of the Day of the Dead and the trajinera, a type of flat-bottomed boat, with the social concerns of the present. The full installation included 113 trajineras-offerings commemorating those who had died. The trajineras were created by Mexican artisans from Ciudad Nezahualcóyotl and reflect traditions of pre-Hispanic times in which trajineras circulated in Tenochtitlán. Photographs were taken by Milton Martínez, a photographer for the Secretaría de Cultura CDMX which sponsored the event, and released by them on Flickr.
