Description

Richard Marshal unhorses Baldwin Guines at a skirmish before the Battle of Monmouth in 1233. From the Historia Major of Matthew Paris, Cambridge, Corpus Christi College Library, vol 2, p. 85. MS 16, fol. 88r

Scanned from Four Gothic Kings, Elizabeth Hallam, (ed.) on p. 27 where Earl Marshal is praised in action at Monmouth, which has confused William (d. 1219) with son Richard (d. 1234 after Monmouth) since publication of the book in 1987.
