This USMC Raiders patch was drawn and designed by SSgt. Carl Andrew Rasmussen, a Raider serving at the time on Guadalcanal. Andy was an art major and graduate of The University of Denver in Colorado. He served in the Pacific Theater, including the Solomon Islands, Bougainville, Midway Island, Iwo Jima and Korea. He received The Navy Cross, The Silver Star, The Bronze Star, a citation for bravery in the line of duty saving lives, and many other medals, awards and commendations. Wounded seven times in separate battles, he received 2 purple hearts with four oak leaf clusters. He has a marker in the memorial section of Arlington National Cemetery.
