Public domain

This work is in the public domain in its country of origin and other countries and areas where the copyright term is the author's life plus 80 years or fewer.

You must also include a United States public domain tag to indicate why this work is in the public domain in the United States. Note that a few countries have copyright terms longer than 80 years: Mexico has 100 years and Jamaica has 95 years. This image may not be in the public domain in these countries, which moreover do not implement the rule of the shorter term.

Creator:Arthur Batut - born: 1846 died: 1918

Note: Image was published in 1890 in the book La Photographie aérienne par cerf-volant, éd. Gauthier-Villars, 1890, Gauthier-Villars is a French publishing house, and the author was born in France and died in France in 1918.

Note also that Commons:Licensing#France states:

  • normal duration of copyright is 70 years following the end of the year of death of the author
  • extensions to copyright because of the World Wars (see CPI L123-8 and following).
  • 6 years and 152 days for World War I
  • 8 years and 120 days for World War II

Worst case is 70+6+8 years + 152+120 days = 84 years + 272 days. Add this to the end of 1918 yields year 2003 and 272 days. Therefore this image should be now in the public domain.
