Summary

Description
English: View from the nearby square.

In a charter mention was made of a mosque on this spot that was built by Kutlubey, an Ottoman commander who lived during the reign of Murad I, it existed in 1429. It was built in replacement of a Seljuk mosque that had collapsed. In 1899 the ceiling was found to be rotten. It was decided to build a masonry and multi-domed mosque similar to Hagia Sophia in memory of the 25th anniversary of Abdulhamid's ascension to the throne, and the construction started. The walls of that new mosque, which was completed in 1904, were made of stone. After the mosque was destroyed in the great earthquake in 1914, the present mosque was built in 1922. There is a minaret in the northwest corner of the rectangular planned mosque in the north-south direction.

On the interior, especially on the cover and pendant surfaces, hand-carved ornaments and medallions stand out. Its mihrab has a pointed arch. The minaret is located independently from the mosque at the west end of the north facade.
