This was taken in the Piazza del Poppolo in Rome -- where one sees not only international tourists, but also groups of kids speaking Italian, apparently visiting Rome on a school tour of some kind.
That's apparently what was going on here; and the young man in the foreground (with his back to the camera) had asked the girls to huddle together and pose for a group shot.
These photos were taken during a week in Rome, at the beginning of December 2008. I was participating in a computer conference, but had some free time at the beginning and end of the trip; unfortunately, the weather was not very cooperative, and my photography efforts were sometimes interrupted by rain...
