The text on the title page is as follows:

"THE / FIRST PART / OF THE INSTITVTES / OF THE LAWES OF / ENGLAND. / OR, / A COMMENTARIE / vpon LITTLETON, not / the name of a Lawyer onely, / but of the Law it ſelſe.
"MARTIAL. / Quid te vana iuuant miſeræ ludibria cartæ, / hoc lege, quod poſſis dicere iure meum eſt. [Martial, Epigrams, book X, no. IV, lines 7–8: "Quid te vana iuvant miserae ludibria chartae? / Hoc lege, quod possit dicere vita 'Meum est'." – "What do the empty tales of such frivolous writings profit you? Read in this book of mine of real life, of which you may say, 'It is mine'."]
