Title
Thomas Eakins and John Laurie Wallace on a Beach
Description
Photograph of Thomas Eakins with John Laurie Wallace. The figure of Wallace was later used as a reference for the prominent figure in Thomas Eakin's "The Swimming Hole" c. 1884-1885. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Swimming_Hole ) From the Met Museum's catalogue: "This photograph was probably made during the summer of 1883 at Manasqua Inlet at Point Pleasant, New Jersey. Affecting the elegant contrapposto stances of classical sculpture, Eakins poses with his student J. Laurie Wallace."
