| Purpose of use in article (WP:NFCC#8) | The fair use of this artwork is justified on this basis of the educational value provided its unique illustration of the subject of the article, Jack Parsons. It was painted by his second wife, Marjorie Cameron, a notable 20th century artist and countercultural figure in California, where she and Parsons lived, and where Parsons was involved in JPL and Caltech. As well as a scientist Parsons was a writer and poet whose works were published after his death. The low resolution, non-profit use of this painting exhibits 1) the mutual influence Parsons and Cameron had on each other in their lifetimes as cultural figures and 2) it is arguably the most significant cultural portrayal of Parsons to date, given the artistic notability of Cameron herself. |
