A slightly different perspective in my growing moon gallery. My previous cormorant-moon experiment: Moon Roost. The above was photographed at the Ballard Locks as the moon was rising above the perched Double-crested Cormorants (Phalacrocorax auritus ). I usually prefer to shoot one exposure, but owing to the mechanics of placement, it's obviously tough to get both the foreground and moon in focus, even at a high f-stop. So, to represent what my eye saw, I shot two exposures, one for focus on the cormorant, and one focusing on the moon. The shots were identical except for the sharpness of the moon. I pasted the original cormorant shot below. It shows the image before I layered/masked the focused moon in Photoshop. |
