| Description |
English: An oil painting showing the west front of Chatsworth House in the 18th century, painted by William Marlow (1740–1813). The stable block is to the left of the house and the cascade to the right. The north wing had not been built. This picture emphasises the romantic aspect of Chatsworth's setting on the edge of the Peak District. The hills behind house were windswept moorland when it was built. They were not forested until the 18th century, and are still partially exposed in this view.

Au premier plan, une vaste pente herbeuse encadrée à gauche de buissons, à droite d'un grand et vieux chêne ; au milieu marche un homme portant une faux suivi d'une femme avec un panier. Au second plan une large prairie traversée par une rivière. Une route bordées de bouquets d'arbres mène à un pont à deux arches et balustre de pierre qui franchit la rivière, à gauche. En fond, une colline partiellement boisée au centre de laquelle se détache la façade ouest de Chatsworth House, avec les écuries sur la gauche. La cascade est visible à droite. |
