Summary

Construído pelos mouros no século VIII ou IX D.C., este Castelo está implantado em dois cumes da Serra, de onde se disfruta generoso panorama. Circundado de muralhas e diversas torres, sofreu diversas reparações em especial no período romântico (cerca de 1860), quando o rei consorte D. Fernando II de Saxe Coburgo-Gotha, o restaurou, arborizou os espaços envolventes e conferiu às velhas ruínas medievais uma outra dignidade. O Castelo foi conquistado por D. Afonso Henriques (1147), monarca a quem se deve a construção da Capela românica de S Pedro, cujos interessantes vestígios ainda sáo visíveis, junto ao «oppidum» onde há também uma cisterna, uma porta árabe «em ferra- dura» e diversas estruturas de habitação. Esta Capela preserva dois curiosos portais românicos e, na capela-mor, restos da pintura a «fresco» de sentido decorativo, bem como diversos túmulos da antiga necrópole medieval. <a href="http://www.portugalvirtual.pt/_tourism/costadelisboa/sintra/mourosp.html">www.portugalvirtual.pt/_tourism/costadelisboa/sintra/mour...</a> |
