Description
English: Canongate Kirk The main church of the Canongate, erected in 1691 after James VII claimed Holyrood Abbey Church for his own use, leaving the burghers to find an alternative place of worship. Its graveyard contains the graves of the economist Adam Smith, the poet Robert Fergusson, Lord Provost George Drummond (who conceived the 18th-century New Town) and Robert Burns' 'Clarinda'.
