Original Caption: "Die Hölle von Arnheim
Schon bei ihrer Landung mit Lastenseglern und Fallschirmen erlitt die 1. britische Luftlandedivision im Raum von Arnheim durch die erbitterte deutsche Gegenwirkung schwerste Verluste. Zahlreiche Lastensegler wurden bereits in der Luft abgeschossen oder bei ihrer Landung in Brand gesetzt. Die Besatzungen kamen entweder ums Leben oder wanderten in deutsche Gefangenschaft. Wie Riesenfackeln brennen hier auf einem Landungsplatz viele britische Lastensegler aus.

Die am 17.9.1944 begonnene alliierte Luftlandeoperation bei Arnheim sollte die Übergänge Rhein, Maas und Waal sichern. Nach großen Verlusten wurden die gelandeten Truppen Ende September zurückgezogen. Einer der Lastensegler der britischen 1. Fallschirmjägerdivision, der schon während der Landung bei Arnheim in Brand geschossen wurde.
