Summary

This is a translation of some Egyptian characters that were copied down by Joseph Smith and his associates in 1835 into two separate notebooks. (see w:Joseph Smith Papyri) They are part of the Book of the Dead for Amenhotep, a male Egyptian who probably was interred during the Egyptian Ptolemaic era.

The first notebook is now called "The Valuable Discovery" Notebook, written in the handwriting of Oliver Cowdery, and signed on the cover by Joseph Smith.

The second notebook is in the handwriting of W.W. Phelps. The figures of a walking snake, bird (ba spirit?), and canopic jar come from JSP V and JSP I. They are not from the

The translations were done by Robert Ritner.[1] Dan Vogel's youtube video was instrumental in understanding the characters.[2]
