Summary

Description
English: The Bitlis Castle cannot be overlooked, it domineers the centre. Its kernel is Byzantine, but it has been added to and changed until well into Ottoman times. In 1911 big parts were transported away, to be used as building material. Source: Knaurs Kültürführer (Dutch Edition). Slightly to the right of the centre of this picture we see a minaret that used to stand alone for years as the "Mosqueless minaret" , but during this visit I saw first some building activity, at a later visit a whole mosque, so the name is not appropriate anymore.
