Description

Jean Mentel, imprimeur et éditeur (1410-1478) Buste sur piédouche circulaire. Piédestal polygonal orné d'arcatures néogothiques trilobées terminées par un fleuron. Piédestal et piédouche en bois peint. Buste en ronde bosse et plaque en bas-relief en marbre. La plaque en marbre est fixée sur la façade du piédestal.
Signature et date au revers du buste : SICHLER SC / 1842. Sur le piédestal, en lettres gravées et dorées : MENTEL DE SCHLESTADT INVENTEUR DE L'IMPRIMERIE. Au centre de la plaque en marbre, armoiries aux lions couronné de plumes surmontées d'une devise dans un phylactère : VIRTUTEM MENTE CORONAT. Sur le pourtour de la plaque en marbre, en lettres gothiques : Anno Christi millesimo quadringentesimo sexagesimo sexta / Insigne Scottorum Familiae / ab Friderico Rom Imp III Joan Mentelio / primo Typographiae Inventori ac fui concessam (L'an 1466, l'Empereur Frédéric III concéda les armoiries de la famille Schott au premier inventeur de la typographie).
